Today is the international day for the elimination of violence against women. Now, out of everything I do in my professional career, the path that is most heart centred for me is the path of helping women realise their worth and stop letting abusers destroy their lives.
I have suffered at the hands of so many male abusers in my life that I can’t even count them all on one hand. Every single traumatic experience could have ruined me, easily. If it wasn’t for my rock, my grandmother, I don’t know where I would be today.
She always believed in me, believed that one day I would see my worth – and she was right. It took years of her continual support and positivity and belief for me to see it for myself, but I will be forever grateful.
Not many people know this, but when my ex partner put me in hospital with a broken rib, she stormed up to all 6 foot 3 inches of him in the hospital lobby, poked her finger in his chest and said “You leave my granddaughter alone or else!”.
It makes me laugh now to picture it, even though it was no laughing matter. The guts and strength this woman had motivates me every day.
She died in April of this year, and although so much has been taken from my soul now that she’s gone, I hope to continue her legacy and try to encourage and uplift people the way she did for me. To remove the power of all the ‘Slippery Sam’s’ of this world and allow women to bloom to their full potential.
My book has one chapter left to write, and I cannot wait to share it with all the women who need it.
I will leave you with this YouTube Video, for anyone who feels like they may be in an abusive relationship and they can’t escape.
So much love x
